The City That Sleeps

I woke up at five in the morning. For work? No. For fun? Ridiculously, yes. Surprising for someone like me who loves to sleep in. We woke up unwillingly in hopes of catching the sunrise at Stanley Park. Romantic you say? It's for his time lapse project, so no. But, nevertheless, me accompanying him because I feel sorry for him - that's a pat on my own back. Gloves in hand, scarves hugging our necks, and warm tea to keep my tummy cozy.

I am glad I went on this ride. Besides the times when I go camping, the world is a never-ending conversation. The city so loud, I have never been able to listen to the city speak to me. This morning was like a break from the conversations between engines, machines, and technology. The city was truly sleeping. I stood in front of our city scape and the water was so still I can hear it whispering to me. The bright moon shining to make sure we're all safe. I closed my eyes, and I thought I was a bird expert as the quietness allowed me differentiate the chirps between types of birds. It's funny how when the city wakes, the human species take over the land as if it's ours. But, when we are asleep, nature is at it's best. I saw all the birds - fearless and without hesitation - dancing in the skies; the baby ones all come out as this is their chance to learn how to fly and explore.

I can't quite express how I was feeling at that time, I just hope that I can motivate others to do the same, because that feeling was uplifting. Click. The sound of the camera - darn thing, waking me up from my moment of silence. The sun is now kissing against the city of glass. I'll have to do this again I tell myself.
